The situation

LANDR has long empowered musicians with AI tools for mastering, distribution, and collaboration. Yet, we identified a critical gap: upcoming musicians struggled to finish their music, while seasoned musicians found it hard to make a living from their craft. Both groups lacked access to each other, slowing progress, limiting experimentation, and hindering financial sustainability.

In late 2019, we launched LANDR Network, a platform connecting musicians to professional help and new revenue opportunities.

The mission

I led the design of LANDR Network, aiming to create a seamless, intuitive experience that helps musicians:

The goal was to build a platform that felt like a natural extension of LANDR’s ecosystem while appealing to a broader audience.

The process

To ensure the Network met musicians’ needs, I mapped the musician journey from discovery to collaboration to monetization. The main pain points included:

Early feedback from professionals revealed they wanted to help upcoming artists but were hesitant to have their name credited too early in a new musician’s career. For aspiring artists, quality of service, security, and payment were top priorities.

Key Decisions

Early in the development phase, I managed tech constraints due to a significant effort to update the stack from Angular to React. Some integrations, such as messaging directly from a service provider’s profile and displaying customer reviews, were finalized post-launch.

Two 5-star reviews for LANDR's Mix Feedback service. The first review by Elle Tran (27 Sep 2022) reads, 'Great feedback! Olivia provided amazing insight into things I wouldn’t have thought of. Made the changes, and my track is way...' The second review by Lamar Brown (26 Sep 2022) starts with, 'VERY good feedback on my rou...' Both reviews are displayed on a dark-themed background.

Reflections

Designing LANDR Network was about more than creating a marketplace—it was about filling a gap in the musician’s journey and helping artists progress faster. By focusing on curated service providers, seamless integration, and a user-friendly experience, we built a platform musicians trust.
